Look younger thanks to hyaluronic acid and botox!

Monday, 10 June 2019 10:15
Appearance is important for everyone and caring about it certainly doesn’t mean you’re superficial. If looking in the mirror doesn’t make you feel good, it’s difficult to start the day with self-confidence. We all know our strong points, and also our weak points which we would like to change. Make-up will perhaps help cover it up, but if you’re looking for a more long-term solution, here at the UVEA Mediklinik eye clinic, we have a solution.

Boost your self-confidence with hyaluronic acid

Together with collagen, hyaluronic acid is the basic building block of our skin. While collagen firms up the skin, hyaluronic acid nourishes and hydrates it. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the skin, the production of which falls significantly with age, reflected on our skin with the appearance of wrinkles, for example.

At the UVEA Mediklinik, we apply dermal fillers with hyaluronic acid to correct wrinkles, lines, fallen cheekbones and cheeks, bags under the eyes, scars, to correct lip contours and volume and also to rejuvenate the skin and provide other such effects. The application using a fine needle or cannula takes only a few minutes, but the effect itself can be seen immediately. “After the application of dermal fillers, you can expect some redness, slight swelling or a small bruise, which are only a temporary reaction by the body to the procedure”, warns the ophthalmologist MUDr. Miroslava Budinská. Two or three days after the procedure, you must follow the instructions of the treating doctor and avoid using any make-up, drinking alcohol, intensive sport, cosmetic massage and skin treatment, or suntanning and saunas. “Clients usually react very well to these dermal fillers. The effect depends on the type of filler used, and can last 6 to 24 months,” adds MUDr. Miroslava Budinská. In our UVEA Mediklinik eye clinic, we use dermal fillers of the Juvederm and Teosyal brands.

Farewell to mimic wrinkles

Whatever you do, you simply can’t escape wrinkles. The loss of your skin’s elasticity as a result of ageing, exposure to the sun, smoking, as well as the natural movement of face muscles lead to the gradual appearance and deepening of wrinkles. Mimic wrinkles usually appear on the forehead, around the eyes and mouth.

A very common problem is the so-called glabellar wrinkle between the eyes, which is the result of frowning. With their bad habit, smokers can easily end up with so-called smokers’ wrinkles around their mouth.

At our UVEA Mediklinik eye clinic, we use botulinum toxin or botox to reduce mimic wrinkles, particularly around the forehead, eyes and root of the nose. “Botox has an excellent effect on crow’s feet wrinkles, which appear at the corners of the eyes when smiling. After application, your face does not appear stiff; quite the opposite, your expression is preserved, your face looks younger, more relaxed and without wrinkles,” explains MUDr. Miroslava Budinská. As well as mimic wrinkles, botox also deals with so-called essential blepharospasm, when the patient blinks uncontrollably, even closing the eyelids involuntarily.

Despite the fact that botulinum toxin is poisonous in high doses, our clients have nothing to be worried about, since in aesthetic medicine, it is used only in extremely diluted, therefore safe, doses. Diluted with saline solution, it is applied into the muscle using a thin needle, where it temporarily blocks the neuromuscular transmission of movement, thus relaxing the muscle as required. The whole procedure takes only a few minutes. “The number of pricks depends on the site of application, but there are usually 3 or 4 in each area. There are usually more pricks on the forehead, 5 to 7. You can hardly feel these pricks, since botox is applied using a special, thin needle, like that used for insulin,”  MUDr. Miroslava Budinská describes the application.

For several minutes after the application of botox, slight swelling, redness or small bruising might appear, which can be covered by a make-up corrector and will disappear within a few days. “Clients usually notice the change after 48 or 72 hours, and this effect develops fully within 2 or 3 weeks. As for other aesthetic procedures, in this case, too, certain preventive measures need to be followed, such as not leaning down, not lying down and not touching the treated areas for 4 hours after application. You must also be careful in the case of any excessive physical load, cosmetic massage or skin treatment,” warns MUDr. Miroslava Budinská. By repeating the botox applications, the duration of the effect will be gradually prolonged, which is why its application is recommended once or twice a year, with the exception of the first year, when it is applied more frequently.
